BEMIDJI, Minn. – The University of Jamestown football team struggled to keep pace with a potent Bemidji State offense, falling 47-25 on the road Saturday at Chet Anderson Stadium.
Despite a spirited fourth-quarter surge, the Jimmies (1-6, 1-6 NSIC) could not overcome the Beavers' (3-5, 3-4 NSIC) explosive passing attack.
Bemidji State quarterback Bart McAninch threw for four touchdowns, three to receiver Jake Hill, helping the Beavers establish a commanding 27-10 halftime lead and stretching it to 41-10 after three quarters.
Jamestown's offense found its rhythm late in the game. Quarterback
Cole Hentges generated 318 yards of total offense and threw for two touchdowns, focusing heavily on big plays.
Zach Hammett scored the Jimmies' first touchdown with an 8-yard rush at the 1:56 mark of the the second quarter.
With 13:24 left in the fourth quarter, Hentges connected with Colton Schumacher for a 15-yard touchdown. The Jimmies converted the subsequent two-point conversion via a rush from Gage Solano.
Jamestown's last score came 39 seconds left in the game as Hentges completed a 19-yard touchdown pass to Nate Burke to cap off a 99-yard drive. Burke led all Jimmie receivers with four receptions for 110 yards, highlighted by a pivotal 54-yard reception on the final drive.
Aanon Peterson converted a 27-yard field goal to get UJ on the board with 4:41 left in the first half.
The Jimmies managed 19 first downs and were perfect in the red zone (4-for-4), scoring 25 points in four attempts inside the 20-yard line.
The defense was led by Zach Mueller and Josh Bosacker, who were credited with seven total tackles each. Evan Smith recorded one sack for a 10-yard loss and defensive back Ryan Beams recovered a fumble for the Jimmies.
UJ returns home on November 1 to host Minnesota Duluth at 1 p.m.
